Who We Are
Our Roots
~ It's the need to stay alive after giving birth for us...~
Every 12 hours a woman dies from pregnancy related causes. African American women are 2 to 3 times more likely than white women to die from complications of pregnancy and birth. Black women are also more likely to experience serious complications during pregnancy.
But how? How and why does this happen in a developed country such as the United States? Well some factors that have been identified through research are:
-
Lack of diversity in healthcare professions.
-
Lack of community-based services.
-
Lack of access to equitable healthcare.
-
Biases in prenatal/postpartum care for black women.
-
Lack of multiculturalism in maternal mental healthcare.
Black Moms Corner was founded to help bridge the gap in maternal wellness for African American women and women of color. We strive to provide education, resources, support and advocacy to help uplift, empower and celebrate women of color. We also have launched the Moms Corner Shop that will have cool, relatable gear for moms, moms-to-be, women of color and more.
